On Monday, 2 November 2020, Mr. Eben Phillips newly appointed Municipal Manager (MM) at Cape Agulhas Municipality (CAM), together with his Personal Assistant Ms. Elsabé Zieff went on a walk about to the different municipal offices to meet and greet the staff. During the walk about, Mr. Phillips mentioned that the staff of an organization are its most important asset.
Executive Mayor Paul Swart and the Council recently held a thanksgiving ceremony to thank the staff for their dedication and hard work during the year but especially during the National Lockdown where a lot of the staff had to function as frontline workers.
Deputy Mayor Zukiswa Tonisi acted as the master of ceremonies and gave the out-going MM, Mr. Dean O’Neill and newly appointed MM, Mr. Eben Phillips an opportunity to say a few words.
“Thank you for this opportunity, it allows me to embrace the diversity of CAM, it’s a good mix of diversity, diverse people, diverse personalities, people who come from different backgrounds, beliefs and cultural groups and that is the beauty of a team. I would like to tell you that I am a very active team player. It is in my nature, and character to embrace everybody’s roles which they have to play in the organization. You can have the best kind of a captain or leader, but if the rest of the team does not support that leader, does not share the same vision, does not share the same goals for the organization, then we will stagnate and see a very vibrant conflict immerging from it. I will give every person an opportunity to play their role in the organization. We as the leaders are here to maintain the good and sound administration of Cape Agulhas Municipality, that I can only do if everybody supports the vision and plays their role” said Phillips.
Mr. Eben Phillips is no stranger to Cape Agulhas Municipality where he was previously employed, but most recently he was the Director Community Services at Knysna Municipality. We wish him all of the best with his new position and we are sure that he will make a huge success of it.Last published 12 January 2021
